OPERATION VICTOR'S ROOM

Hello every one
This is the first project I'm going to share with anyone who would like to follow me .I will be showing how I do it in a cost effective way because if your like me you don't have a lot of money but it's something that can greatly benefit your child and that is" priceless "
Around my house this room is now fondly referred to as" operation victor's room" originally I had planned to change his old carpet from the late 80s to laminate flooring and thought it could use a bit of a redo while I was at it .So off to the computer I went to look up rooms for autistic children . It was then That I realized how very important a sensory room is for an autistic child ,it helps in learning and helps in behavior and can be a great comfort.

I came to the conclusion after a week of researching that this room wasn't something that would be nice to do. It was necessary even for nuro typical children this room is greatly beneficial : However when I started looking at the prices I knew there was no way I could ever afford that, but if I want my child to progress I needed to figure a way. So here is where we begin YEA!!!!
PLANNING.....................................
1. Know your child {I will be using victor as an example, if I say victor likes blue its soothing. then think to your self (my child) likes (color) it's soothing.

get some paper out and start drawing out ideas don't worry about scale at this stage  I did name my walls North ,South ,East and West. Victor loves the way Andy's room is painted(from toy story) First problem Andy's room has chair rails "MY GOD HOW MUCH IS THAT GOING TO COST!!!! " so I decided instead of purchasing chair rails I'd do a paint effect on the walls using paint and home made stencils.I then went back to my computer and looked at various sensory items that would be good for victor. Almost all the items were hundreds of dollars each $$2000. for the bed I wanted $200. for a swing ???REALLY???? it went on and on
I can make this stuff .

I'm Planning on doing the room end of June. I will be sharing pictures and how to stuff as we go along and if you have any questions please ask.

I started saving in march ALL change and dollar bills go in to a bank . The first thing I did was figure the square footage of his room  then knew I would need 7 boxes of laminate flooring so every week I go to home depot and purchase 1 box for $23.00  taking off $23.00 from the grocery bill (cooking from scratch) if you are going to do laminate like me make sure your flooring is a popular one that they carry all year you don't want them to change or stop carrying it when your almost done  ( If that happens to you contact me I have some ideas on how to save the situation)

2. Find a corner to keep your collections ( Flooring , bedding ,elec....)

These are my first drawings the red squiggles on the east wall are victors contributions don't worry about your first drawings we will do more accurate and detailed drawings later first we need to know what we want. I used colored pencils so I can erase if I want to change some things , but still get an idea of color and how things will go together.
As you can see I have worked theses drawings and carried them around for a while.
Next post I will be drawing them out on graph paper and Ideas on other items that go in his room.
HAPPY DRAWING!!!!!!!! AND PLANNING!!!!!!!!

I just started this blog. and then we all got sick  my poor little guy this year has been so bad for him. the medicine they gave him causes aggression  and we had only 1 week to go then he was off now I don't know it's like we are put back at square 1. It seems like every two steps forward we end up one step back .and this one is a major one. I'll write more details later when we are healthy and able to cope.
